Sunny Lane Canine Academy offers Dog-Friendly classes, using positive reinforcement methods. All training classes are fun ,affordable. and effective. For the health and safety of all dogs, proof of vaccinations is required. Dogs attending classes must be healthy and on a flea control program. Obedience certificates will be given to each dog that successfully completes each course. Classes may be pushed to a later date to reach a minimum registration requirement of 5 dogs. Children 10 years and older may attend classes. Children over 12 years may attend the Doggie Social Club. Younger children may attend private and family lessons.
Baby Dog Class ( New ) 90 minutes, $20, PRE-SCHOOL
This once a month workshop is offered for young puppies 8 – 14 weeks who’s owners who seek info on early puppy development. Your puppy will get a jump start on socialization in a safe, controlled, environment with other dog babies. You will learn how to address early puppy issues such as potty training, biting, nipping, and “puppy ADD”. Your puppies early play style may be indicative of future training issues. We will touch on nutrition, puppy maintenance, and crate training. All of your questions will be answered. If you decide to continue on with Puppy Boot Camp, the cost of this workshop will be credited to that class! Please check with your veterinarian before joining this class.
Puppy Boot Camp and Support Group (6 weeks) $99.00 BEGINNING
Puppies 12 weeks to 8 months will learn doggie social skills, good manners, and basic commands including: sit, down, stay, leave it, give it, take it, wait at door, come when called and much more. Hand signals and verbal commands will be taught. Owners will learn how to handle jumping, nipping, and biting. Learn the best potty training techniques as well as the most effective and humane ways to stop bad habits from setting in. Puppies will have fun doing confidence building exercises like tunnel runs and “walking the plank”. Clicker use is optional. Play sessions at the end of class.
Basic Training (6 weeks) $99.00 BEGINNING
Doggies 8 months and older, with no prior obedience training, will be taught basic skills like sit, down, leave-it, stay, coming when called, wait at door, loose-leash walking and heel. Hand signals and verbal commands are taught. We will also work on any existing behavioral problems like barking, digging and jumping. This is a good class for the adopted shelter dog or older dog who needs some stimulation or a refresher course. Clicker use is optional.
Doggie Middle School (3-weeks) $60.00 INTERMEDIATE
Does your teen-age dog or Sunny Lane Alumni need a little more “polish”? If your once well-behaved dog has become sloppy in his behavior, perhaps he is going though the dreaded Doggie Adolescent period (6-months to2 years) This 3-week course may be just what you need to get back on track. This class is offered for socialized dogs, that have been taught the basics, but need a little more training. This refresher course will help re-teach the dog and the owner to work together as a team. We will focus on recall, leash walking, focus and handling techniques while increasing the human/doggie bond. There will also be fun and surprises for you and your dog. Your dog wants to come back to school!
Young at Heart, (3-weeks) $60.00 SENIOR/INTERMEDIATE
This 3-week course was designed for previously trained dogs, 7 years or older, who need a little refresher and some one-on-one time with their beloved owners. We all need a little bit of stimulation and excitement in our lives. We sometime forget that our older trained dogs still loves work with us and learn new things. We will work with games music and movement to rekindle that old relationship. You will see a new bounce in the step or your older best friend.
Beyond Basic Training (6 weeks) $110 ADVANCED
This class if offered for well-socialized dogs that have completed at least one obedience class. Your dog will improve existing skills and learn some new ones through a series of fun and stimulating exercises. This class focuses on distance, duration, distraction and teamwork. Most exercises are conducted off-leash and with multiple dogs. Learn advanced clicker techniques and how to use a target stick. There will be a little agility, some new tricks and games, a little dancing, and a lot of fun in this class. Clicker optional, but encouraged.
Private Lessons (Trouble-shooting)
Sometimes private lessons are preferable to training courses. If your dog has mastered most basic skills, but needs a little help with some things such as: coming when called, not jumping on people, walking nicely on the leash, etc., one training session may be all it takes to correct the problem. Also, if your pooch is dog aggressive, people shy, or excitable, you may choose private lessons over a training course. Private lessons are $40.00 per session at Sunny Lane. Home visits are also available for an additional charge. Please call for free phone consultation.
Puppy Play Date ($6.00)
Sign up ahead of time for a puppy play session indoors at Sunny Lane. Puppy Vaccinations required.
Doggie Social Club, Sundays, May-October, $5.00 per Doggie Household
The popular Doggie Social Club will be open between May and October. Dogs must be vaccinated and previously temperament tested to join the party. Children 12 years and older may attend. Your dog wants to come!

Agility with Julie Grenfell
Popular Agility Trainer, Julie Grenfell, will be teaching spring and summer agility classes beginning on in May 1st. Beginning and Intermediate classes as well as privates lessons and clinics will be offered. Times TBD. Please call Julie for more information on other classes that she offers year round. Play Yard Rental ($10 per hour for up to two dogs)
Do you have a dog that is reactive to other dogs or is not appropriate for group play? Every dog enjoys a change of scenery. Bring your dog(s) out for a romp in the private play yard during the week. Enjoy the toys and equipment and take a walk in the Nature Walk.
Other Offerings
In addition to the classes and events listed above, we also offer a number of workshops, seminars, and theme parties during the year. Agility training and the Doggie Social Club both begin in May.
